How to Be Romantic!

How to Be Romantic!

Most people, at some point, have the desire to be romantic. Some people are great at it, and others…well some others are more romantically challenged. If you fall into the latter of these categories, take heart, we’ve got some great tips to get you off on the right foot to being romantic.

Something extra. A great way to be romantic is gifts of course! By far the most popular method, gift giving can make your loved one feel special, loved, and cherished.  Jewelry, chocolates, flowers, engraved cutting board, and cards are some common ways, but if you want to really do something special, buy something that person would not; or could not buy for themselves. Whether it is something pretty like pearl jewelry, a pair of concert tickets, or a smoldering get-away to an island paradise; look for something that would surprise and delight.

Make it personal. Being romantic is different from one person to the other. The key to being romantic is understanding who your special someone is. Think about the things they are passionate about, their deepest values, and their dreams. Find ways or things that will speak to those places and bingo! You’ve got romance. If you’re not sure about what those things might be, a great first step in romance is communication. Have conversations together where you truly listen. Hear what the other person is saying, and listen for things they share that make their eyes light up.

Don’t underestimate the little things. We often think of romance as a big event, or an expensive gift. Taking the approach of something little each day, goes a long way. Especially with the ladies! Opening doors, making a coffee, writing little notes, a surprise visit to the office, or a sweet phone call to say “I love you,” goes a long way.

Back to square one. You might be surprised at how successful this trick can be for re-kindling your relationship. Go back to the beginning, pretend you don’t know each other at all, and woo and win your love over. Treat your partner like you’re single, and interested in them, and do whatever it would take to show them that you are interested. Nobody likes feeling like they’ve been caught, and that the romance is over.  The best ideas can come when we’re afraid we might lose somebody.

Remember, being romantic isn’t the same as being obsessive! Make sure you are truly listening to the language and cues that your partner gives. Very few people really understand how to “listen,” so take some extra effort and tune in to your relationship, and think about how to love the other person in a way that they would receive best!
