Makeup essentials for busy moms

Beauty consists of two things. The first, and most important, is good skin. If you take care of your skin, half the battle is won.

So, even if you are absolutely exhausted and can’t wait to fall into bed, take the time to remove your make up, wash your face and moisturize every night. Another key ingredient for good skin is exfoliation, but you don’t need any products or tons of time! Simply soak a natural sea sponge in hot water while in the shower and rub in circles around your face. Do this three to four times a week if you have oily skin, or once or twice if your skin is dry, and always moisturize afterwards!

The second thing about beauty is balance, which has to do with the symmetry of your own unique face. Are your eyes close or far apart? Do your eyebrows frame your face the way they should? If you have really done-up your eyes, do you really need a really loud lipstick too, or vice versa?

Once you take care of your skin and know which areas of your face need more help than others in a quick fix, then you can develop a routine, or more than one—your three-minute face, five-minute face and so on.

For a three-minute face simply:

  1. Apply a non-shiny, tinted moisturizer with SPF 15,
  2. Dab a little concealer, slightly lighter than your skin tone, and blend with your ring finger where needed,
  3. Apply mascara to your top lashes only and
  4. Wear lightly-tinted or shear lip gloss.
  5. With more time you can start adding in bronzer or blush, highlighters under your eyebrows, on the inner corners of your eyes and on the tops of your cheekbones (powder is quickest), or a thin layer of eyeliner as close to the roots as possible for a thicker lash line.

Whatever length of time you have in the morning or before you go out on those hopefully not too rare occasions, it’s all about what makes you feel best. Maybe organize one makeup bag with the bare essentials for that fast, of-course-I-got-more-than-four-hours-sleep look, and one for when you have more time.
