Motivation: The key to losing weight

Motivation: The key to losing weight

So, you’ve made the resolution to lose weight this year…which is probably the same resolution you made last year… But this time, it’s going to be different. You’re going to lose the weight and keep it off! The key to losing weight is motivation! Here are a few tips to help keep your motivation levels high and make your journey to weight loss a pleasurable one (yes it IS possible).

You have your reasons, write them down:

Why have you decided that 2012 is the year you will lose weight? Did your doctor tell you that you need to watch your cholesterol levels? Are you tired of not fitting properly in the clothes that you want to wear? No matter what the reasons are, write them down. Post them all over your house and even at your office so that you can read them often during the day. However, don’t push yourself too hard. It’s impossible to lose 30 pounds in a month. A normal weight loss averages to about 1-2 pounds per week. Don’t ask for the impossible from your body, you’ll just end up losing the motivation needed to reach your goal.

Reward yourself:

Treat yourself to something special every time you reach a milestone in your weight loss program. Not all rewards have to be food. You can go out and buy yourself a book or clothes that you’ve been dying to try on! If you need a little extra boost of motivation, you can always join a weight loss website like caloriecount.com for extra tips and healthy recipes. You’ll also find plenty of inspirational stories on those websites about people like you who have lost weight and managed to keep it off! These people didn’t have trainers or superpowers, they made a plan and they stuck to it, and you can do it too!

Show your beauty to the world:

The best part of losing weight is buying new clothes! Don’t wear the same old boring outfits you used to wear when your waistline was a little wider…Throw them out and promise yourself you will not go back to that size again. Wear styles and colors you were just too afraid to wear before. If you feel like you need a little help with certain types of clothes, wear a body shaper that will smooth out all those little bumps you don’t want other people to see.

In the end, you’re the only one who knows what will work for you and what won’t. Don’t try to do this in order to please your husband, your children or even your doctor. They can give you support along the way, but you are the only one that is going to put in all the efforts and see the benefits that you will gain from losing weight, not them.

Do you have any motivation tips that you would like to share with us?
