Relaxing in the kitchen

Relaxing in the kitchen

We live hectic lives. With our fast paced schedules, it’s sometimes hard to find the time to relax resulting in many of us feeling burnt out and overwhelmed with stress. Sadly, not everybody has the time to go to a yoga class or mediate for 30 minutes every day…So how do you find time to relax? Well, there is a solution. There are some foods you can eat that will have calming effects on your nerves and make you feel more relaxed and happier.

1-Eating nuts as a mid day snack

Whether you work in an office or at more physically demanding job, most of us feel hungry when 3 pm comes rolling around. If you’re starting to get the mid day munchies, try snacking on some nuts instead of going for the chocolate and potato chip filled vending machine in the cafeteria. Nuts contain a lot of a chemical called selenium and most of us don’t produce enough of it on a day to day basis. People who don’t have enough selenium in their bodies are more at risk of developing anxiety problems and even depression. So snacking on a few nuts everyday is healthy and nutritious way to keep the blues away.

2-Switching salad for spinach

You’ve been told time and time again to add some leafy greens to your diet. But next time you feel like eating a salad, try switching the lettuce for some spinach instead. If you don’t feel like eating a spinach salad, chop some spinach on your cutting board and mix it with the lettuce and other veggies, you won’t even notice the taste. Spinach can loosen your muscles and calm your nerves because it contains a lot of magnesium, so try to eat at least one cup of fresh spinach per day.

3-Submit to your chocolate cravings

Now we’re talking! Dark chocolate is not only proven to be a powerful aphrodisiac, it can also help you feel more relaxed and happy. Dark chocolate is high in a chemical called tryptophan which helps the brain to relax. You don’t need to eat lot ether. Try a small dark chocolate square after dinner every day and you will feel more relaxed in no time.
